Environmental Incentives is seeking a Writer/Editor to help us inspire changes in key audiences’ knowledge, attitudes, and behavior in service of more impactful development programming. The Writer/Editor will support the communications efforts of several EI (Environmental Incentives) teams who support clients through development of written products, web content, slide decks and presentations, infographics, social media, and stories. 



  • Support EI staff in drafting written products, including reports, technical briefs, journal articles, web content, blog posts, briefs, and proposals. 
  • Provide extensive editing support to finalization of client-facing deliverables, including editing for consistency of style and voice, copy editing, and streamlining. 
  • Amplify EI quality standards and expectations for written products.  
  • Coach staff in using EI and client style manuals effectively. 
  • Align technical products with audience needs, ensuring that key messages are delivered in compelling, audience-appropriate ways. 


  • Coordinate with EI staff, partners, and clients to ensure that communications products, webinars, web content, and in-person events are appropriately packaged and disseminated to reach target audiences most effectively. 
  • Develop communication strategies for individual products, campaigns, and events. 
  • Help EI staff maintain Outreach Tracking Logs to track dissemination of communications products, social media, and events.  
  • Plan events, including virtual meetings, workshops, and a close-out meeting.

These qualifications are considered the minimum necessary and we expect successful candidates will bring more than the minimum listed:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, International Development, Environmental Science or a related field and 3 years of related professional experience OR 8 years of Writer/Editor experience.  
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions.  
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English.  
  • Writing and editing skills in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French desirable. 
  • Demonstrated success using audience-appropriate writing styles.  
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions. 


  • Understanding of issues in international development and environmental conservation. 
  • Proficiency in use of graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop). 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on strategy and planning while being highly productive in working independently to contribute to achievement of group objectives. 
  • Knowledge of USAID and its operations. 
  • Problem-solving orientation with a desire and ability to work independently and contribute to collaborative solutions. 
  • Highly organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to timely delivery of high-quality products.  
  • Commitment to Environmental Incentives’ core principles and values.

The position will be based in Washington, DC. Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the position will begin remotely. Being present in the office on multiple days per week is an expectation once we reopen offices, which is expected to commence sometime after July of 2021.
