Alyx brings a background in both environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture to her role as a Climate Mitigation and Agriculture Specialist in USAID’s Bureau for Resilience, Environment, and Food Security. She provides technical assistance and programmatic support to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and halt commodity-driven deforestation in the Agency’s wider agrifood systems portfolio.
Prior to joining EI, Alyx worked as a Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Specialist as part of the Leland International Hunger Fellowship. She provided on-the-ground technical guidance to agriculture and dairy projects in East and Southern Africa, in addition to supporting her team’s thought leadership strategy on CSA in Washington, D.C. From 2014-2016, she served as a Sustainable Agriculture Extension Agent in Peace Corps Senegal, extending improved staple crop seed varieties and conservation agriculture practices to smallholder farmers. Her career in international development has been interspersed with domestic programs, leading youth conservation corps crews to restore U.S. public lands and urban community gardens.
Alyx believes in transforming our global food system from being a major contributor to climate change to being part of the solution through a combination of effective policies, well-aligned institutions, and landscape-level approaches to sustainable farming and natural resource management.
